Clifton Wayne Mercer

Clifton Wayne Mercer, 77, of Kinston went to be with his Lord and Savior May 28, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.  He was born August 17, 1940 in Lenoir County to Charlie Haskell and Bessie Mae Stroud Mercer.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Jane Becton Mercer; daughters Karen Foss and husband Bob of Kinston and Gail Stanley of Grimesland; grandchildren Robert Foss, Kayla and Ashley Stanley and Rachel Barrow; great grandchildren R. J. Foss, Savanna Howard and Brynleigh Barrow; sisters Barbara Harrod of Clayton and Glenda James of Newport and brother Jack Mercer (Georgia) of Kinston.

He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church of Kinston where he served as a deacon.  He was a truck driver for over 50 years.  He loved spending time with family and friends.  He also enjoyed going to the mountains, fishing and hunting.

 Funeral service will be Thursday night at 7:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church, Hwy. 58 S, Kinston with Pastors Bill Bradley and Danny Sykes officiating with visitation to follow.  Burial will be at 11:00 AM Friday at Westview Cemetery.  Family and friends will be received at other times at 2261 Old Oak Rd., Kinston, NC.
