Dorothy Bernice Swindell Alex, 98, of Kinston passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Signature HealthCare in Kinston. Dorothy, also known as GiGi, is to be remembered as a strong woman whose love for her family was immeasurable and continues to be felt. Her life was dedicated to her faith, her family and her love of music and the beach. She surrounded herself with family always; her siblings, daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Her nurturing touch raised beautiful flowers, just as it raised her beautiful girls. Dorothy was the strength and core to our family and she raised us well. She left behind memories that will not soon be forgotten, she lived for us every day and it always showed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas & Annie Laura Swindell; husband Chris Arthur Alex; six sisters and three brothers.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters Janet “Cookie” Pearson and husband Ronnie of Kinston and JoAnn MacHamer of Atlanta GA; granddaughters Michelle Moore and Sara Kroening; great-grandchildren Riley Moore, Chloe and Caroline Kroening; and sister Christine Harrison and husband Isaac.

Graveside service will be held privately at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
