Dorothy (Williams) Harvey

Dorothy Williams Harvey of Kinston passed away Thursday, October 18, 2019, at Carteret Landing, after a long battle with breast cancer. Born July 27, 1947, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Lynwood Earl Williams, Sr. and Dorothy Wells Williams. She attended Grainger High School and was a graduate of Converse College. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lynwood Earl Williams, Jr.

She is survived by son William Suggs Harvey, III and wife Kristy Woodson Harvey and grandson William Suggs Harvey, IV, daughter Dorothy Harvey Coleman and husband Taylor Farrington Coleman and grandsons George Howard Coleman and Samuel Barr Coleman, sister Nancy Williams Bower and husband Joseph Sidney Bower and sister-in-law Kay Shivar Williams. She is also survived by nephew Joseph Sidney Bower, Jr. and wife Amy Foster Bower, nephew Lynwood Earl Williams, III and wife Alissa Rae Williams, and nephew David Wells Williams and wife Kelly Young Williams and numerous great nephews and nieces.

She taught French for more than forty years at Arendell Parrott Academy and was passionate about French culture, language and literature. She enjoyed taking her students on international trips to explore the places she loved most and was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 800 Rountree Street, Kinston NC 28501, Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 am with Father Tom Warren officiating. A private family burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
