Ethel Marie (Murphy) White

Ethel Marie Murphy Sutton White, 88, of Kinston born on St. Patrick’s Day, earned her heavenly wings on the morning of Tuesday, March 14, 2018.

Eager to meet the Lord, her battle with Chronic Leukemia is thankfully over. Marie was a devoted member of Kinston First Pentecostal Holiness Church for 33 years. Every morning she would pray over pictures of her loving family. She was a very quiet and private lady. A devoted sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she was loved by all. A dedicated homemaker throughout her life, she kept an immaculate home and her delicious country cooking was the envy of all. She made the best pecan pie, squash and sweet potato casseroles.

Marie is preceded in death by her first husband Homer B. Sutton; second husband Robert “Bob” White; parents Emmett and Ethel Murphy; sisters Melba Haskins, Peggy Page and Grace Murphy; brothers Garland Murphy, Harry Murphy and Billy Murphy; grandchild Christopher Davenport.

Survivors include her daughter Brenda Bussard and husband Frank; sons Clyde Sutton and wife Linda, Homer Sutton and wife Jeannette; step daughters Scarlet Bonner and husband Ray, Paula Owens and husband Johnnie, step granddaughter Lisa Hayes and husband Greg;  step grandsons Rob Busard II and wife Fran, Bobby White and wife Audrey, Robert Vinson White and wife Mary;  sisters Faye Moore, Edna Reynolds and  Arlene Ferren; brothers Kent Murphy and Buster Murphy; grandchildren April Sutton Modlin and husband Larry, Jereme Clyde Sutton and wife Jill; great grandchildren Colby Lane Modlin, Hannah Grace Sutton and Molly Marie Sutton.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son Clyde Sutton. The funeral services for Marie will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Forehand and Pastor Brian Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
