Frederick Sutton

Frederick Sutton, 93, passed away on Friday November 16, 2018 at the North Carolina State Veteran’s Home in Kinston, NC surrounded by his loving family.  He was also known as John Henry Asa Howard Huckleberry Boone Sutton.  He was born July 9, 1925 and lived a full life.  He was a Sergeant in the US Army and served in WWII, Pacific Theater and upon arriving back, he married the love of his life and they embarked on a lifelong adventure.  He was owner and operator of Sutton’s Food Store and after retirement he spent most of his time fishing nets as a commercial fisherman at his home away from home, South River.  Many good times were shared there with family and friends fishing, eating, and enjoying time with each other.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Frances Sutton, son Malcolm Sutton and wife Carolyn, two infant children, his parents Shade and Gertrude Sutton, two brothers, three sisters, and his brother-in-law and best friend Ben Metts. 

He is survived by his grandson Mike Sutton and wife Gwen, granddaughters Debby Elmore, Betsy Parker and husband Stevie, Dana Marshburn and husband Steve, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday November 17, 2018 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be officiated by Doug Baker, Monday November 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with graveside to follow at Westview Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the North Carolina State Veteran’s Home in Kinston, NC.
