Kenneth Daniel West, Sr., age 72, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC. He was born January 28, 1946 in Kinston to Benjamin Herbert and Mildred (Carter) West.
Kenneth retired in 2001 after achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and was discharged from the Army with full honors after 27 years of service, one of them being a tour in Vietnam. He was devoted to serving his community in positions that included Policeman and Firefighter for the Kinston Police and Fire Department as well as a longstanding and joyful career as an Emergency Medical Technician for East Care and Lenoir Memorial Hospital EMS Departments.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy Marie Felker of Hubert, NC; his brother, Robert Lee West of Rocky Mount, NC and his infant twin sons. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Gayle Evans West as well as son, Kenneth “Ken” Daniel West, Jr. of Kinston, NC; daughter, Tiffany Noelle Best of Rockmart, GA; son, Jacob Adam Best and wife Kimberly of Kinston, NC; grandsons, Joshua Ryan West of La Grange, NC and Emerson Fischer Best of Kinston, NC.
Visitation with the family will be held on March 27, 2018 from 6-8pm at Howard Carter Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted on March 28, 2018 at 12 noon at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery – Goldsboro.
