Robert Lee Freeman

Robert Lee Freeman was born on July 10, 1938 in Canton, Pennsylvania and entered into eternal rest on December 20, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC with his wife, Ruth, by his bedside.

Robert was the youngest child of the late Floyd and Eleanor Freeman and he grew up in Troy, Pennsylvania. When he was sixteen years old, his grandfather Herbert Larcom passed away and he and his brother, Dick, worked to keep their grandparents farm going.

After high school, Robert attend Bible college in Green Lane, Pennsylvania. At the age of twenty-seven, he joined the military where he spent two years in Germany as a Private First-Class Medical Specialist. 

On November 6, 1965 he was united in holy matrimony to Sonia Buck Freeman. To this union, two beautiful girls were born. He and Sonia lived in Elmira, New York where they raised their daughters until 1985 when he moved his family to Kinston, North Carolina. They quickly became very involved in the Kinston First Pentecostal Holiness Church where they faithfully served the Lord. 

Robert served as the landscaper for his church for over 30 years. He loved being able to make the grounds of the Lord’s house pristine. He also loved his church family and enjoyed Southern gospel music.

After the loss of his wife, Sonia in 1991, he found love again. On May 30, 1993, he married Ruth Eubanks Freeman. Their blended family, including her two sons, welcomed 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Robert and Ruth lived happily together in Kinston, NC until he made heaven his home.   

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.   

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Eleanor Freeman, his brother Richard, and his first/late wife Sonia. 

Robert is survived by his wife Ruth Freeman, “Mom” Marie Freeman, daughters Michelle and Stephanie, stepsons Scott and Mark, grandchildren Brooke, Rian, Camden, Kylie, Hannah, and great-grandchildren Rileigh and Aurora. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019 at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Pastor Brian Rogers officiating.
