Thelma Roberson Obituary

Thelma C. Roberson of Kinston, NC, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2018. Alzheimer’s may have robbed her of her memories, but it could not take away her sweet disposition and laughter. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmama, sister, aunt and friend. Thelma was known for her delicious home cooked meals, gingerbread boy cookies, and sweet desserts.

Surviving family members include her husband of 62 years Ben Roberson, daughter Becky Roberson and Chris Jepsen, daughter Melinda Scott and husband Butch, son Walt Roberson and wife Paula, grandsons Marcus and Ryan Roberson. Also surviving are sisters Jeannette Savage; Dorothy Smith and husband Robert; and Hazel Wallace and husband Billy; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother James Arthur, and sisters Beulah Guyton and Mary John Huggins.

Growing up on a farm outside of Elizabethtown, she considered herself a country girl at heart. She graduated from East Carolina College and taught Home Economics. While working at Caswell Center, she taught the residents to love a tea party. She had been an active member of Westminster UMC.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gary Heck, the compassionate staff of 3HC and her dedicated care givers Pearlie Davis, Dee Dee Rouse, Armatha Davis, Helen Peterson, Audrey Yates, Ernestine Coward and April Battle for the loving care they gave Thelma during her illness.

Graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the fellowship hall of Westminster United Methodist Church from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster UMC, PO Box 1007, Kinston, NC 28503.
