Agnes Faye Mallard Phillips, 89, of Trenton died Sunday, November 7, 2021 at her home surrounded by her daughters. She was a member of Lanie’s Chapel Christian Church, Jones County Retired Teachers, Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #86, Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Jones County Home Demonstration, and Disciples Women’s Ministries at Lanie’s Chapel. She loved music and served as pianist for her church and sang in the choir most of her life. She always wanted to teach children and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College. When her husband was in service, she taught school on base in Bordeaux, France. She returned to the states and retired from Jones County Schools with 30 years of service.
Agnes Faye married her high school sweetheart, Horace, in 1954 and enjoyed many years together until his passing in 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Rom Mallard and brother, Graham Mallard. Agnes Faye is survived by her daughters, Anna Marie Phillips Lassiter and husband, Al, of Trenton, Linda Faye Phillips Griffin and husband, John, of New Bern, and Susan Grace Phillips Pickard and husband, Victor, of Hillsborough; sister, Rose Raper of Mt. Olive; sisters-in-law, Jean Mallard of Kinston and Audrey P. Bray of Cary; brothers-in-law, William Phillips of Greensboro and Don Phillips and wife, Faye, of Trenton; grandchildren, Alison Marie Lassiter Strommer of Trenton, Melanie Lauren Lassiter Singh and husband, Sanchit, of New Bern, Adam Christopher Griffin of Van Nuys, CA, Megan Elizabeth Griffin of Durham, Logan Phillips Griffin of New Bern, Benjamin Ellis Pickard and wife, Sydney, of Wake Forest, Melinda Grace Pickard of Wilmington, and great-grandchildren, Aiden Phillip Strommer of Trenton and Mia Lauren Singh of New Bern.
With grateful appreciation the family would like to recognize the wonderful care given by her in-home companions, Barbara and Elizabeth; her “Dream Team”: Angel, Wanda, and Doris; her many wonderful healthcare providers; and her sweet community of friends and family.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Darren Smith presiding. Burial will follow at Phillips Family Cemetery, Phillips Road, Trenton, NC.
