Allen A. Mooring

Allen A. Mooring, Sr. of New Bern, North Carolina, died Tuesday, November 19, 2024, with his family by his side.

He was born in Kinston, North Carolina on January 2, 1936 to John Allen Mooring and Ellen Alice Mooring.  Allen joined the Air Force in 1956.  He served in Vietnam and was privileged to serve in the Presidential Squadron during his career.  Allen retired from the Air Force in 1979 after almost 24 years of service. He opened Al’s Ceramics in Kinston, in 1980 and continued to work in his shop for the next 25 years. Allen loved to fish, feed the birds and work in his gardens.  In later years he enjoyed cooking, especially cakes, even though he was not a big cake eater.

Allen married Gloria Jones Smith of Comfort, North Carolina on September 10, 1955. She was by his side for 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his great grandson, Anthony Munoz.  He is survived by his wife and four children, Joanie Collars and Jay, Jeanie Criste and Rick, Al Mooring, Jr. and Elaine, and Dennis Mooring and Vicki.  He and Gloria were blessed with 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, November 22, 2024 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Howard Carter Funeral Home, 1608 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston, North Carolina 28504
