January 24, 1936 – December 12, 2024

Kinston- Bessie Howard Mervin quietly slipped away in the early morning hours of December 12, 2024. She was born in Lenoir County to the late Herbert Howard and Loubelle Whaley Howard on January 24, 1936. In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Mervin; daughter, Sharon Denise Mervin; and siblings, Elwood Howard, L.E. “Bud” Howard, Leroy Howard, and Larry Howard.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. A service of love and remembrance at 2:00 p.m., with Richard Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Kinston.

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff of Magnolia Cottage. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bessie’s memory may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Bessie is survived by her daughters, Patricia Galetschsky (Derek Tabor) of Fayetteville, Candace Alphin of Pink Hill, Rhonda Wilcox (Delanson) of Garner, and Denise Smith (Dearld) of Pink Hill; son, Archie Mervin of Burlington; sisters, Ann Herring of Albertson, Jean Outlaw (Michael) of Eastover, Trula Meadows of Swansboro, Faye Davis of Kinston, and Joan Bradshaw of Kinston; sisters-in-law, Polly Seymour and Billie Faye Howard; grandchildren, Heidi Galetschky, Bradley Pike, Justin Wilcox, Lauren Honeycutt, Logan Smith, and Ryan Mervin; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Howard-Carter Funeral Home, Kinston.
