Betty Jane (Harrington) Cox

Betty Harrington Cox, 84, of Kinston, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pitt County on November 13, 1937, she was the daughter of Preston Harrington, Jr. and Polly Louise Edwards Harrington. She is preceded in death by her husband, Maxie Earl “Bud” Cox; parents, Preston Harrington Jr., Polly Louise Ward, and James Ward; and sister, Carolyn Malloy.

She was employed by West Pharmaceuticals for over 20 years. She was a volunteer at Lenoir Memorial Hospital for 20 plus years and loved serving her community. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 64 years and dearly loved her church family. Her favorite past-time was being around her family.

Survivors include her son, Steven Earl Cox and wife, Melissa, of Kinston; daughter, Sonya Cox Wells and husband, Glenn, of Kinston; grandchildren, Krista Rae Alphin Hicks, Hunter Dawson Wells, Anna Marie Steed, and Brandon Lee Wiggins; great-grandchildren, Brier Reed Hicks, Brandie Marie Bollick, Janson Bryce Steed, Levi Andrew Smith, and Steven Lee Wiggins; brother, Preston Ray Harrington III and wife, Daisy, of Greenville, NC; very special nieces and nephews, and other close friends and family.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at her home. Funeral service will follow the visitation beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Rogers and Associate Pastor Jerry Banks officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Pastor Brian Rogers officiating.
