Betty Jean Davis Wilcox, 86, entered Heaven’s gates on Friday, April 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born with a kind heart and joyful spirit, Betty touched countless lives through her warmth, grace, and unwavering faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, neighbor, and friend—always ready with a smile, a prayer and helping hands.
Throughout her life, Betty found joy in simple pleasures: spending time with family, serving at her church and volunteering with the American Red Cross. Her home was a haven of laughter, comfort, and the love of Jesus Christ, her Lord. A lifelong, active member of Shady Grove Church, she served in various leadership roles, faithfully ministering to others.
Betty’s legacy of love, strength and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mertie Davis; her sister, Shirley Hill; her brother, Lynwood Davis; her eldest daughter, Rose Taylor; and the love of her life, Frederick Wilcox.
She is survived by her youngest daughter, Sherry Pike, her son-in-law, Jerry Pike; her grandson, Jason Taylor; her granddaughter, Amanda Hoover; and her great-grandchildren, Kinley and Ethan Hoover.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at Shady Grove Church, 4359 Middle Rd., Kinston, NC, with Pastors Greg Dickerson and Jerry Pike officiating. All who knew and loved Betty are welcome to attend and honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations be made to Shady Grove Church in Betty’s honor. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice Care, the members of Shady Grove Church, and Howard-Carter Funeral Home for their compassionate support during Betty’s transition to her heavenly home.
