On September 15, 2025, Carolyn Fletcher, a beloved wife, mother, nurse, artist, and cherished member of her community, died in Christ peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 86.
Carolyn was born in Columbus, GA to her parents, Reverend Edgar and Gertrude Albers on September 3, 1939. Her parents raised Carolyn and her three sisters to be strong, independent women dedicated to sharing their gifts and abilities in service to others in God’s name.
Using her gifts, Carolyn pursued a career as a registered nurse graduating from nurses’ training in Fort Wayne Indiana in 1960. An active nurse for over 54 years, Carolyn served as head nurse of surgery in St. Louis Hospital in St Louis, MO, as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WV, a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, and 34 years as a nurse at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston, NC.
During her tenure at Lenoir Memorial hospital, Carolyn worked as a head nurse in the emergency room, as well as a nurse in the recovery room and day surgery.
In addition to her nursing career, Carolyn was an accomplished artist and played a big role in the Kinston arts community. Up until her death, she was a prolific painter of acrylics who shared her works with the public at Art 105 in Kinston NC.
Carolyn was a joyous and faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church where her husband Ronald, is Pastor Emeritus. A devout wife, Carolyn and Ron would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on December 29, 2025.
Left to honor her legacy, Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ronald, daughter, Julia Elaine Selway (Donald), sons; Vincent Andrew Fletcher (Bettina), Christopher Michael Fletcher (Christie), Alexander William Fletcher, Nicholas Patrick Fletcher (Sheena), grandchildren; Emma Kate Fletcher, Giancarlo Vincent Fletcher, Evan Liam Fletcher, Christopher Michael Fletcher, Jr., Isabella Fletcher, Sophia Elise Fletcher, Malachi Boddie, Nicholas James Fletcher, and sisters, Ellen Elizabeth Vance and Lois Ann Lucas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Edgar Albers and Gertrude Hodde Albers and sister, Elaine Marguerite Plackner.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, Kinston, N.C. Visitation will follow the service.
