Clarence Inman Lucas, Jr.

Kinston- It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Clarence Inman Lucas, Jr., a beloved husband, devoted father, veteran, and cherished grandfather. Clarence, age 75, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Clarence was born on August 15,1949 in Kinston, NC where he was raised. As a loving husband, he spent 51 wonderful years beside his wife, Linda, whom he adored with all his heart. Together, they raised two children, Brian, and Kimberly. Clarence embodied strength and resilience throughout his life. He answered the call of duty when he was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 6th, 1970, amid the turbulent times of the Vietnam War. Serving as a Specialist Four during his tour in Germany, Clarence dedicated himself to his country with honor and bravery until January 15th, 1971. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge on April 5th, 1976. His exemplary service did not go unnoticed; Clarence was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and earned the distinction of Expert with an M16. These accolades were a testament to his unwavering commitment and duty to his fellow soldiers and nation.
A devoted father, Clarence was a guiding light in the lives of his children, Brian and Kimberly. He took immense joy and pride in spending time with his children, always providing them with unconditional love and support. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, Logan, Addyson, Michael, and Mason, who knew him as their fun-loving "Grandad." From family trips to their home in Atlantic Beach to recent years fishing trips on the river to boat rides on sunny weekends, Clarence cherished every moment spent creating everlasting memories with them.
Clarence had a passion for golf, which he enjoyed with dear friends who shared his enthusiasm for the game. The laughter and camaraderie shared on the course brought him immense happiness. Clarence never wanted to miss a golf game! Additionally, the river was a wonderful place for Clarence to spend his free time, where he loved to relax, fish, and engage in spending time with family. His adventurous spirit was evident as he reveled in riding on the boat with his son and grandchildren, creating stories that will be passed down through generations.
A kind-hearted soul, Clarence touched the lives of everyone he met with his contagious smile and generous nature. Clarence was one that never raised his voice or lost his temper. His ability to find joy in simple pleasures and his unwavering devotion to family and friends will be missed by many.
Clarence is survived by his children, Brian Lucas (Melissa) and Kim Lucas Elkins (Kevin); grandchildren, Logan Lucas, Addyson Lucas, Michael Lucas, and Mason Basden; brother, Gordan Lucas (Bonnie); and sister, Kay Gursley (Al). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Lucas; sister, Terry West; and brother, Larry Lucas.
In honor of Clarence remarkable life, a celebration of his memory will be held on November 11, 2024, at Howard-Carter Funeral home, starting at 6pm. All who knew and loved him are invited to share stories, laughter, and the love he so freely gave.
Granddaddy lived for his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, his request was for contributions in his memory be made to his grandchildren to invest in their futures. If you would like the donation to be made specifically toward Logan, Michael, Addyson, or Mason, please specify in the memo.
