Clyde Arthur Herald, 91, of Kinston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the NC State Veterans Home in Kinston. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geraldine Deaver Herald; parents, Samuel Jennings Herald and Ollie Belle Cornes Herald of Crum, West Virginia; five brothers; two sisters; daughter, Rose Herald, and son-in-law, Jim Rombold.

Clyde was well-known for his big smile and friendly greeting for anyone he came across. He retired from the Air Force where he served his country honorably on many overseas tours. After retirement, he worked for several years with Durham Life Insurance Company. He was a volunteer at Lenoir Memorial Hospital where he accumulated over 5,000 hours of service. He had a strong bond and deep love for all his brothers and sisters of the military. He made sure to always greet his fellow veterans with a “thank you for your service”. He served as Chaplain of the American Legion for two years and was a member of the VFW and Vietnam Veterans of America. Known fondly as the “Mayor” of the Veterans Home, Clyde will truly be missed by all.
