Daniel Edward Hill

Daniel Hill passed away peacefully at Spring Arbor Senior Living, in Kinston, on Saturday evening, August 19th, 2023. He was 80 years old. He was preceded in death by his second wife of 29 years, Portia Jarman Hill, his mother Margaret Hardison Hill, and his father, James Tull Hill.

Born in Lenoir County, Daniel was a Boy Scout and played football, basketball and American Legion baseball during his younger years. Daniel graduated from Contentnea School in 1961. He attended North Carolina State University's two year Agriculture program, where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.  Daniel worked for International Paper in Onslow County, Tull Hill Farms, Barrus Construction/APAC, and ER Lewis in Greenville. Daniel was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. Through the years, Daniel enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and attending sporting events and Nascar races. Daniel was a tender-hearted man who had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs. He will be remembered for his fun-loving personality and witty sense of humor.

He is survived by his son Michael Edward Hill and wife, Jimi; daughter, Mary Margaret Hill; three grandchildren, Graham, William, and Ashley Hill; brothers, Jimmy Hill and Kendall Hill; his first wife of 23 years and mother of his children, Mary Louise Whaley Hill; many first cousins, nephews, and nieces, and several other close family and friends.

His family would like to thank the staff at Spring Arbor Senior Living in Kinston and Gentiva Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home in Kinston, with Pastor Allen Ham officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
