David Franklin Naylor, 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Sunday morning, October 3, 2021, with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Katie Johnson Barwick and P.R. Naylor; wife, JoAnn Hill Naylor; son, Russell Naylor; siblings, Tillman, Murphy, Ruby, and Louise.
David was born in St. Pauls, NC in 1940, and grew up at Kennedy Home in Kinston and graduated from La Grange High School. David received his Christian and work ethics from Kennedy Home. He was grateful for the upbringing he received there and has always been a strong supporter of Kennedy Home. He met and married the love of his life, JoAnn Hill Naylor, whom he was married to for 43 wonderful years. He honorably served in the United States Army and work career included Local Linen, Piedmont Airlines, which later became U.S. Airways, Lester’s Hardware, and Caswell Center. He was a very dedicated worker and cherished all the life-long friendships he developed through the airlines. David was a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. He was very dedicated to his family and church family, including caring for his spouses during health issues.
David leaves his wife, Betty Cumby Naylor; daughter, Elizabeth Naylor Albritton, and husband, Robbie; stepdaughter, Karley Kotcho Slaughter, and husband Scott; stepson, Mel Ruby, and wife, Kellie; grandchildren, Jessica Cook and husband, Matthew, Spencer Albritton and wife, Tabitha, Philip Albritton and wife, Kelly, Brittany Barrow, Thomas Albritton and wife, Shelley, Abby Jo Slaughter, and Mary Jane Slaughter; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Brantley, Ryan, Anna Gray, Trinity, Brice, MacKenzie, Jase, Brody, Reid, Jackson, and Lucas; siblings, Helen Potts (Leslie) and Bettie Sasser, and sister-in-law, Mary Naylor.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Westview Cemetery with Pastor Chris Truett officiating.
