On September 11, 2022 a dark cloud was cast over the Phillips’ Farm in Jones County. Donald Lee Humphrey (Walker) passed away at the Village Nursing Facility in Kinston, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Stanley Humphrey; parents, Hoyt and Ella Humphrey; brother, Robert Murray Humphrey and wife, Donna; brother-in-law, Leroy Whaley, and niece, Jeannie Humphrey.
Donald, who had always lived on the Phillips’ Farm, held a special place in his heart for the entire Phillips family. He had always lived near them and farmed with them for many years. Although he was a retired tobacco farmer, Donald continued to take great interest in his friends’ and neighbors’ crops.
Donald also had a great love for deer hunting. He was a long-standing member of Trenton Hunting Club and Chinquapin Hunting Cub. He was also a member of Half Moon Hunting Club. During the fall and winter months, Donald could be found running dogs, hunting deer, or swapping deer dogs in search of the perfect hound. He truly enjoyed all the love and fellowship from his hunting friends.
Donald is survived by his sister, Pat Whaley of Pleasant Hill; sisters-in-law, Barbara Toteno of La Grange, Becky Stevenson of Pink Hill, Debbie Jarman of Kinston, Dorothy Winn of La Grange, and Lorrie Mercer of Kinston; brother-in-law, Scotty Stanley of Trenton; nieces, Deborah Heath (O’Neal) of Pleasant Hill, Ella Flora (Mike) of Rocky Mount, Debbie Neal (Gary) of Newport, Amy Parker, and Ashley Holleman (James) of Trenton; nephews, Billy Whaley of Pleasant Hill and Jimmie Humphrey (Gigi) of Suffolk, VA, many other special nieces and nephews, and close family friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund, 364 Vine Swamp Road, Kinston, North Carolina 28504.
