Donald Hubert Hutchinson

Donald Hubert Hutchinson passed away on December 28, 2022, at UNC Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Donald was born December 1, 1947, in Florence, South Carolina. Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann Hutchinson; his mother, Mildred Hutchinson; his father, Hubert Hutchinson; grandson, Joshua; and brother-in-law, Gee Parker.

He is survived by his children: Gregory Hankins (Gabrielle) of Mobile, AL, Michelle Mann (William) of Greenville, NC, Brian Hutchinson (Joy) of Memphis, TN, and Jeffrey Hutchinson (Jennifer) of Kinston, NC; siblings, Ludie Hutchinson (Amanda) of Pensacola, FL, Yvonne Parker of Kinston, NC, and Jackie Hutchinson of Kinston, NC. He had 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald and Shirley lived in La Grange, NC for over 30 years. Donald proudly served six years in the United States Marine Corps where he served two tours in Vietnam, one year in the South Carolina National Guard, and he retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. During his distinguished military career, he received many personal awards and unit commendations. Donald and his family lived all over the country during his 22 year career. After retiring from the United States Navy, he and his wife settled in La Grange, NC, where he drove trucks for the United States Postal Service.

Donald loved computer games and trivia. He loved to tell stories of his adventures in the military. He never met a stranger and could spark up a conversation with anyone.

Donald was a proud grandfather and would do anything for his grandchildren. He would often talk to them about what was going on in their lives. When they came to visit, he would tell them stories that would have them laughing. Above all, Donald was a family man, and his world was centered around family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in the chapel at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with burial to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, NC
