Donald West King, 80 years old, of Kinston, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Judy King; his son Tim King and wife Rebecca; his daughter Angie and her husband Ashley; and his cherished grandson, Ayden. He was the youngest of 11 siblings and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Don King was born on June 2, 1945, in Kinston, North Carolina, to Arthur and Irma King. He graduated from Deep Run High School and proudly served in the Army Reserves. Don worked as an electrician at Electricon and Caswell Center for over 25 years before retiring.
Although his true passion was farming, Don was also a dedicated entrepreneur. Alongside his twin brother, Dan, he operated several businesses over the years—including two chicken houses, an auto sound system shop, a wholesale flower business, and a produce and fish market. For the past 20 years, Don owned and operated his beloved produce stand in Grifton, NC, where he became a familiar and trusted face in the community.
Don lived by the Golden Rule—treat others the way you would like to be treated—and his life reflected that principle. He was known for his kind heart, easygoing nature, and his gift for making everyone feel like a friend. He trusted easily, loved freely, and never met a stranger.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UNC Rex Healthcare Foundation or Lenoir Hospital Foundation at P.O. Box 1678, Kinston, NC 28502 in Don’s memory.
