Douglas Wayne Holt, 77, of Forest City, N.C., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
Doug was a devoted family man whose greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. To those who loved him most, he was affectionately known as “Papa Bear,” a name that reflected the love, protection, and pride he had for his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever.
An outdoorsman at heart, Douglas found happiness in the genuine and natural pleasures of life. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time in the great outdoors. He was never more content than when his hands were in the dirt, tending to his garden. He especially enjoyed growing tomatoes, okra, and corn, taking pride in every harvest.
Doug was a hardworking man who taught himself the skills that carried him through life. His strong work ethic and determination opened doors that eventually brought him to North Carolina, where he built a life filled with family, friendships, and lasting memories.
While serving in the United States Air Force, Doug met the love of his life, his beloved wife, Marion. Together they built a beautiful life and raised their family. After her passing 18 years ago, Doug carried her memory with him every day, never ceasing to miss the woman who meant so much to him.
Doug will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication to his family, and the kindness he showed through his actions. His legacy lives on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him.
He leaves behind a family who will cherish his memory and honor the example of love, perseverance, and hard work that he shared throughout his life.
Preceding him death was his parents, Arthur and Margaret Holt; wife, Marion Sue Holt; brother, Derrick Mark Holt; and granddaughter, Kyla Kay Holt.
Left to carry his legacy are his daughters, Marlo Clemons and Margaret Holt-Lewis (Cary); sons, Douglas Holt, Jr. and George Holt (Lori); grandchildren, George Holt, II, Kaitlynn Wallace (Aaron), Taylor Cope (Greggory), and Zachariah Lewis; great-grandchildren, Ryker Holt, Lennox Holt, and Callahan Cope; siblings, Charles Edward Holt, George Glen Holt, Deborah Kay Church, and Patricia Lee Holt.
