Edna Byrd Obituary

Edna “Joyce” Price Byrd, 90 of Kinston passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. She knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was looking forward to and assured of her future home in heaven.

 

A graveside service was held at Pinelawn Memorial Park on October 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. to honor Joyce’s life legacy. Howard and Carter Funeral Home served the Byrd family.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul Elwood Byrd; parents Dewey & Gertrude Hill Price; son, Kermit R. Byrd; brothers, Raymond Price and Ralph Price. Joyce was born on February 22, 1934 in Duplin County and was a lifelong resident on Kinston, NC.

 

Joyce was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was dedicated to her family and encouraged them throughout their lives.

 

After retiring from West Pharmaceuticals, as an inspector, Joyce worked in other capacities. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren, whom were the apple of her eye. Joyce enjoyed planting and caring for her flower garden, immensely. She also loved cooking and sharing a meal with her family and friends. Joyce loved traveling with her friends and family. Some of her favorite places to visit were the beach and the mountains.

 

Joyce was a member of Jackson Heights Original Free Will Baptist Church from the conception of the Church. She enjoyed attending Church and served in many capacities in her younger years.

 

Joyce is survived by her son Paul Byrd, Jr. of Kinston; daughter Pamela Lee and husband, Frankie of Kinston; daughter Paula Werk and husband Tom of Raleigh; grandchildren, Stephanie Lee Grant and husband,Ty; Paul Lee; Allison Werk Farr and husband, Matthew; Samantha Byrd Akyeampong and husband, Dr. Daniel Akyeampong; Collins Werk; and Joshua Taylor; great grandchildren, Luca Nikolas Grant, Lea Denise Grant, Everett Rowan Farr, Violet James Farr, Liam Taylor,; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

 

The family would like to express their gratitude to The Pruitt Health Hospice for their exceptional care.

 

Joyce and her children are especially grateful to her wonderful caregivers during her health decline, Glenda Davis, Anita Turner, Christi Smith, Joyce Dunn, Ann Thompson, Gaynell Carmack, Terry Norville, Dean Potter, and Sue Blizzard.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to Jackson Heights Original Free Will Baptist Church, 285 Camellia Street Kinston, NC 28504.
