Edward Glenn Manning, 82, of Kinston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
Edward was born on January 30, 1944, in Pitt County to the late Lindsey L. Manning and Lovie Marie Harris Manning.
Edward was raised in Pitt County, where he attended local schools and graduated from Winterville High School in 1961. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 and later continued his service with the North Carolina National Guard from 1971 to 1973. He also attended Lenoir Community College.
Family was everything to Edward. He loved them immensely and valued every moment that he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren.
He dedicated much of his career to DuPont in Kinston, North Carolina, where he faithfully worked for 37 years before retiring in 2000.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Landris Earl Manning, Robert Dewey Manning, and James Linston Manning, previous wives, Hilda Grace Elmore and Susan Grantham and sister-in-law, Ethel Manning.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of the home, Glenda Gabriel Baker Manning, son, Douglas Edward Manning (Heidi Black) of Kuna, Idaho, son, Tony Glenn Manning of Denver, N.C.,, sister, Lula Faye Padgett of Winterville, brother, Thomas Lester Manning of Greenville, step sons, Allen Stroud (Laura Jones-Stroud) of Wake Forest, Todd Baker (Dr. Sandra Baker), grandchildren, Tiesha Ward (Carl), Alaisa Manning Thomas (Seth), Jacob Glenn Manning, Kelsie Rook (Jacob), Kyle Manning, Taylor Stroud, Mallory Stroud, Avery Stroud; great-grandchildren, Nora, Benjamin, and Marion Thomas and Violet Rook.
Edward will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his strong work ethic, and his deep roots in the community he called home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Allen Stocks officiating. Visitation will be prior to service from 1:00p.m.-2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tanglewood Church, Lenoir County SPCA, or the American Diabetes Association.
