Elizabeth Kay Hunt of Grifton, North Carolina, passed away on August 7th after an extended battle with illness at the age of 73.
Elizabeth, who went by her middle name, Kay, was born May 17th, 1950, in Columbus, South Carolina. Kay excelled academically and attended Appalachian State University, where she majored in Education. Kay moved to Eastern North Carolina after graduation and met and married William Taylor Hunt.
Kay taught Biology to thousands of North Lenoir High School students over the span of several decades. After retiring from North Lenoir, she spent several semesters teaching various subjects at Lenoir Community College. Kay's passion and love for teaching gave her joy throughout her life, and she found great happiness each time a former student said hello while she was out and about town. She was truly born to teach, and she helped shape countless lives.
Kay was an active member of Sharon Methodist Church, where she was involved in philanthropic activities with the church; whether it was cooking for an event, helping to fundraise, or participating in projects for underserved communities, Kay's drive to help her fellow humans was inspirational. Additionally, Kay was an avid and gifted cook, and she filled each creation with love; feeding and taking care of people was her love language.
Kay was predeceased by her beloved parents, Ward Anderson and Fern Randolph Smith, her cherished sister Patricia Anne Smith, and her stepdaughter Sherri Rose Hunt Roberson.
She is survived by her husband, William Taylor Hunt of Grifton; her daughter Jessica Fern Hunt and son-in-law Doug Graham of Atlanta; her sister Ruth Mary Coon and brother-in-law George Coon of Douglasville; and her step Granddaughter Brynna Roberson of Wilmington.
A memorial service celebrating Kay's life will occur Saturday, August 12th at 3pm at Sharon Methodist Church, 4106 Sharon Church Rd, Kinston, NC 28501. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation https://msfocus.org.
