Ervin Thomas Wade, 93, of Kinston passed away on February 1, 2021 at UNC Lenoir Healthcare. He was the youngest son of Carl J. Wade and Jessie Waller Wade. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Nannie Mae Thigpen and Ramona Mae Hill, and brothers, Carl L. Wade, Raymond E. Wade, James H. Wade, and Sidney L. Wade.
Ervin graduated from Grainger High School in 1946. After a short stint in the Army Air Corps, he transitioned to the U.S. Air Force where he served during the Korean War and in Vietnam, retiring in 1972. After his military service, he obtained an Associates’ in Business from LCC later working for Green’s TV and Cherry Oil Co. until he retired in 1999.
He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2771 where he served as Quartermaster and then Commander. He also served as Commander of the 13 Post of District 2 for four years. He was also a Life Member of the American Legion Post 43 and the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Ervin was an avid bowler, a hobby which he shared with his family, starting with a back-up ball and graduating to a slight hook which carried him to USAF United Kingdom and European titles. He was a proud supporter of Minor League Baseball at Grainger Stadium, enjoyed the friendly rivalry of the Freedom Classic (USAF vs Navy), and remained a true Phillies fan.
Survivors include Ervin’s wife of 61 years, Margaret I. Roberts Wade; son, Clinton R. (Tree) Wade and wife, Jacqueline, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Pastor Allen Ham officiating.
