Eugene Smith, Jr.

Eugene Smith, Jr., 74, of Kinston, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Joyce Smith, first wife, Carolyn Smith, and son, James Alton Smith.

Eugene worked for the City of Kinston for many years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and loved the American Flag. He loved being outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and bird watching.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa S. Smith; daughter, Sharron Hinson of Goldsboro; son, Christopher Eugene Smith and wife, Mary Ann, of New Bern; step-son, Mark King, Jr. of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Jacob Smith of Washington D.C., Madalyn Auton of Goldsboro, Caroline Smith of New Bern, and Marlee Smith of New Bern; step-granddaughter, Esmae of Mount Olive; sisters, Rose S. Grady and husband, Roger, of Kinston and Lena S. Whaley and husband, Sidney, of Kinston; special friends, James Holden and “Cuz” Steven Simmons; second wife, Emmie Kinsey; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other close family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Pastor Allen Ham officiating.
