Faye Sparrow Hill, age 84, of Kinston, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Jay Sparrow and Lucille Moore Sparrow, and her brother, Mike Sparrow.
Faye loved life and was always active. She formed friendships through her many hobbies. In a sense, she had many families. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She loved family holiday gatherings and always made them special. Easter brings memories of Easter egg hunts for the grandchildren, new dresses for church, and, of course, chocolate. Thanksgiving always included Black Friday shopping. She especially loved Christmas and the traditional activities like big family dinners, making cookies and candy, decorating the whole house, Christmas Eve candlelight service, and Christmas pajamas. When she hosted Christmas, you knew you would see uncles, cousins, and friends you had not seen. She loved having her family close, and everyone was family.
In addition to her family, she had a beach, crafting, and church family. She loved everything about the beach. Faye and Rodney have had a place at Indian Beach for over 50 years. She always said you could feel your worries melt away after crossing the bridge to Emerald Isle. She formed lifelong friendships with her beach friends, and they became her family. Those relationships continue today through her children. Beach weekends were filled with sunning, picking up shells, cookouts, boating, and sunsets. She shared that love of nature with her children and grandchildren.
Faye was a gifted artist. She began crafting at a young age, starting with cross-stitch, macrame, and crochet. She and her husband did woodwork together for many years. She loved scrapbooking and making memories into art. She went to classes and crafting groups as long as she was able. She excelled at painting and loved capturing her grandchildren, the beach, and flowers on canvas. She often gifted friends and family with her works of art.
Faye was a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church for many years. She was employed by Belk’s Store in Kinston as office manager and retired from Caswell Center with 30-plus years of service as an administrative assistant.
Faye is survived by her husband of 63 years, Oazie Rodney Hill; son Oazie Hill and wife Dawn of Fuquay Varina; daughter Missy Hill Marcinowski and husband Thomas of Carolina Beach; grandchildren Olivia Renee Hill, Aaron Tyler Marcinowski, Andrew Jarrett Hill, and Kaitlyn Alexis Marcinowski; and Brothers Issac J. “Bud” Sparrow, Jr. and Lynn Ray Sparrow, both of Wilmington.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Howard and Carter Funeral Home. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Pinelawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Bert Potter officiating.
