Faye S. Mattocks was the daughter of Herman & Louvenia Grady and grew up in the Rivermont Section of Kinston, NC. She married Bobby Sugg, a farmer in Northern Lenoir County and they had one daughter Kim Sugg Evans . Faye worked at Brody's Department Store as a sales clerk while Brody's was downtown and after they moved to the mall. Faye & her daughter Kim followed their love for horses to Tulsa, Oklahoma, which soon became Faye's new home.
After Faye's first husband's death, Faye soon met Tommy Mattocks and they were married on Dec 31, 1981. Tommy's passion was basketball refereeing and that quickly became Faye's passion. Kim moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and Faye quit work at Brody's to be able to travel with Tommy to referee basketball games all over Eastern United States.
Tommy became the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Booking Agent in 1984 and was responsible for assigning referees to high school games. Faye quickly adapted to not only being Tommy's soulmate, she was also his assistant and right hand in getting assignments out, a job they did together for 31 years. And she was free to travel with Tommy to all the games to evaluate the officials. Faye was also instrumental in the successful 24 year history of the Tommy Mattocks Referee Camp. She was involved 100% in the referee association and the greatest gift you can say about the couple is " Where you saw Tommy, You saw Faye". They were a Team.
We are so blessed to report that Faye S. Mattocks passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 7, 2020 at home with her husband by her side. Complying with Faye's wishes, she will be cremated. Due to the Covid 19, there may be a small Memorial Service at a late date if restrictions that prevent gatherings soon loosen.
Faye is survived by her husband, Tommy Mattocks of Kinston; daughter Kim Sugg Evans of Kinston; step-daughter's Susan Smith of Whiteville, Sherry Strickland of Snow Hill and cousin, Ruby Conner of Kinston.
Tommy and Kim wish to express their appreciation for all the prayers and responses we have received. Faye's friends have been simply awesome and we sincerely Thank You.
