Franklin Delano Freeman, known as “Frank,” to many friends and colleagues, and “Franklin” to family members, went to be with the Lord on Sunday May 4th, 2025, in Woodbridge, Va.
He was born January 11, 1937, in Kinston, NC to the late Floyd Freeman and late Erma Jones Freeman as the youngest of five children. His siblings (all now deceased): Dorothy (Dot) Smith of Asheboro, NC, Sabra Frances Grady of Kinston, NC; Floyd Vernon Freeman Jr. of Mount Olive, NC; Edna Rae Freeman of Asheboro, NC. Franklin was also preceded in death by his ex-wife Harriette C Freeman (Cathy) of Springfield, Va.
Franklin is survived by his son, Franklin C Freeman (Frankie) and wife Amy L Freeman; grandchildren: Abigail J Freeman and Isaac F Freeman of Waxahachie, Tx. In addition, he has many nephews and nieces and their families.
Growing up in Kinston, NC, Franklin graduated from Southwood High School. He also graduated from East Carolina University in 1960 with a bachelor's in education and from George Washington University in 1968 with a master’s in education. He married Harriette C Freeman, (Cathy) in 1961 and established their home in northern Virginia. He then completed two years of military service in the United States Marine Corp. For almost 30 years, he worked in public school education as a principal and teacher. His strong work ethic lead him into other ventures including theatre management, retail electronic sales and real estate sales. He excelled in every field. His real estate career continued to flourish until two years before his death.
He looked forward to visits from his son Frankie, Amy, Abigail and Isaac each year. He enjoyed all sports, as exemplified by being one of original Washington Nationals season ticket holders. His other pleasures were old country music, old westerns and old-time radio broadcasts with his friends.
Franklin is dearly loved and missed by his family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for his generosity and keen interest for helping others in need.
