Frederick Theodore Evans (Fred), 92, of Kinston, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Kinston. Fred was born on Christmas Day, 1928 to Jesse Hallock Evans and Sadie Cummings Evans. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ora Mae Rouse Evans, and siblings Mildred Worthington, Dorothy Malinovsky, Pauline Mansour and Dean Evans.
Fred was a founding member of Northwest Christian Church and a long-time member (since 1972) of Kinston Country Club. Fred was an avid golfer at KCC and played golf until he was 90 years old, and was known to have some friendly golf bets going on most of the time. Fred was a true patriot and loved his country immensely.
Fred graduated from Granger High School, served in the United States Air Force, and attended North Carolina State College, Campbell College and University of Maryland.
Fred is survived by 4 children, Gayle Evans West of Kinston; Kimberly Evans Taylor (Bobby) of Kinston; Stacy Evans Morris (Bill) of Charlotte; and Charles Fredrick Evans of Wilmington. Fred was also blessed with 4 grandchildren, Tiffany Best of Morehead City; Jacob Best (Kimberly) of Kinston; Evan Taylor (Jessie) of Kinston; and Kelsey Tilghman (JT) of Kinston – and 3 great grandchildren, Emerson Best, Finn Taylor and Jackson Best. Fred is also survived by one sister, Ruth Ann Malpass of Raleigh, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Arbor for the friendly, excellent and compassionate service and care they provided for the short time Fred was a resident.
Services will be held at 902 Church, 2009 Carey Road on Monday morning, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation following. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to “Lights of Love” c/o UNC Lenoir Health Care, 100 Airport Road, Kinston, NC 28501; 902 Church, 2009 Carey Road, Kinston, NC 28501; or any institution that supports the care and well-being of Veterans.
