Garland Lee Deaver, 84, of Kinston, NC passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Garland was a devoted member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were important parts of his life. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and especially loved fishing off the pier, a pastime that brought him peace and happiness.
He enjoyed working on lawnmowers and took pride in fixing and maintaining things with care and precision. A perfectionist by nature, he took great pride in his yard and always made sure it was kept just right. He also had a special fondness for old cars and trucks, and he especially loved his red Chevy truck.
Known for friendly spirit, Garland made friends easily and genuinely loved people. Family was dear to his heart, and he valued the time spent with those he loved above all else.
Garland will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and appreciation for the simple joys in life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Maggie Deaver, sisters; Lena Mae Gray, Vonnie Ree Humphrey, brothers; Gurnice Earl Deaver, Alton Louie Deaver, and Dalton Dewey Deaver.
Garland is survived by his wife, Jane Becton Deaver, of the home, sisters; Edna Rae Deaver Taylor of Kinston, and brother; Marvin Deaver of Kinston, and several special nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in Kinston.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 20, at 7:00 p.m. at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in Kinston, with Pastor Chris Truett officiating.
Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
