Gary Wayne Gupton

Gary Wayne Gupton, 69, of Grifton, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Signature Health Care of Kinston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Nellie West Gupton; brothers, Jeff Gupton, Garland Gupton and Timmy Gupton, as well as his beloved pets, Hattie and Maggie.

Gary graduated from Clinton High School with the class of 1972. He worked the concession stand at Clinton and Austin Theatre throughout his high school years. He then attended Sampson Community College (formerly Sampson Technical College) where he served as Student Government Vice President and graduated with an associate degree in Recreational Therapy.  Gary worked as a Recreational Therapist at Caswell Center for many years. He also worked as a Group Home Manager for Our Homes, Inc. and as a Job Coach for both Neuse Enterprise and Lenoir Community College, all out of Kinston, NC.

He is survived by his spouse, Pete Lange, of the home; brothers, Mike Gupton of Clinton and Mark Gupton of Roseboro; three surviving nieces; one grandniece; one grandnephew, and many other close family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Allen Ham officiating. Gary’s ashes will be laid to rest following the service at Hopewell Methodist Church cemetery in Newton Grove, NC.
