Gloria Jean (Pope) Melton

Gloria Jean Pope Melton, 77, of Kinston, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at MacGregor Downs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charles Melton; parents, David Albert Pope, Sr. and Inez McClenny Pope; sister, Joyce Kelly; and brothers, Junior Pope, Marvin Pope, Frank Pope, and James Pope.
Gloria was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She adored her grandchildren and loved being their “NeNe”. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crafting, and volunteering as a Pink Lady at UNC Lenoir Health Care, accumulating over 6,000+ hours of volunteer service. She made many fond memories on her shopping and dining excursions with her closest friends. She was a member of Kinston First Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a true servant of God, enhancing the lives of others even through her extended illness.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Melton Turner and husband, Chris, of Kinston; sons, Keith Melton and wife, Dawn, of La Grange and Larry Melton and wife, Valentine, of Cedar Point; grandchildren, Jayden Christopher Turner and Jarrett Charles Turner; step-grandchildren, Ashley Gray, Lindsey Walkoviak, and Keely Gray; step-great-grandchildren, Lucy Gray, Oliver Gray, and Peyton Emory, and many other close family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the special caregivers at home and those who offered their assistance throughout Gloria’s time of need.
Visitation will be held from 5:30-6:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Kinston First Pentecostal Holiness Church with funeral service following at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Rogers and Pastor Rylan Jones officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston. The family will receive friends all other times at the home.
