Harold William Lewis

Harold William Lewis 73, of Peletier, NC passed away peacefully in the arms of his youngest daughter Kelly Hunt at his home on Monday, October 5, 2020. Harold was born on September 6, 1947 to the late Herbert Wells Lewis and Ruth Elizabeth Lewis. A lifelong resident of North Carolina, Warsaw and Kinston mostly. Harold was a Veteran of the Vietnam war, for his service he earned two Purple Hearts. He served honorably in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant. After his second tour in Vietnam Harold returned home to North Carolina and enlisted in the national guard.

Harold enjoyed playing his guitar, listening to “Oldies and Goldies” and watching old westerns. Harold was a loving, caring, extremely giving man who had an awesome sense of humor. He always told the best jokes. He was also very educated and incredibly smart. Harold was preceded in death by his longtime partner of 30 years and his greatest love, Shirley Grady, or as he called her “Shirley Bell”. 

 Harold is survived by three children and five grandchildren. Brian Lewis, his wife Julie and their children Isabel and Allen. His daughter Karen Lewis, her daughter Kayla. His daughter Kelly Hunt, her Fiancé Jermie and their children Hunter Eubanks and Hallie Dilday. He left behind many other cherished family members, Pam, Terry and Donna and one special friend Jennifer Slater who he was very close to. Harold was surrounded by family that loved him dearly and he will be greatly missed.

 Family, friends and others whose lives Harold touched are invited to Howard-Carter Funeral Home, 1608 W. Vernon Avenue, Kinston, at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 11, 2020, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and celebrate the life of Harold.

Graveside service will be 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Military Rites.
