Herman Thigpen, Sr. Obituary

Herman Gene Thigpen, Sr., 85, of Kinston, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 peacefully at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie McCoy and Lovie Lewis Thigpen; sisters, Millie Fordham, Helen Westbrook, Mary Westbrook, Hazel Thigpen, Lovie Thigpen, and Doris Coombs; and brothers, Charles Thigpen and Albert Thigpen.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard. He worked and retired from DuPont and was also a master brick layer. He served as Scoutmaster for Troop 696 and enjoyed being a member and usher for Tanglewood Church.

Herman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anna Thigpen; three children, son, Herman Thigpen, Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Kinston, daughter, Teresa Miller and husband, David, of Oregon, and son, Michael Thigpen and wife, Amelia, of Florida; grandchildren, Tracy Rayner and husband, Jess, of New Bern, Drexel (Pete) Miller and wife, Amanda, of Alaska, Christopher Miller of Oregon, Michael Miller of Oregon, Jonathan Thigpen and wife, Jessica, of Pink Hill, and Brittany Moore and husband, Tyler, of Kinston; 18 great-grandchildren; close family friend, Victor Styles of Kinston, along with many other close family members and friends.

A special thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their special care. Thank you to Mr. Victor Styles for his unwavering support and love for Herman and his family.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:00 am at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
