Hobert Sanderson, Jr. Obituary

Hobert “Ikie” Kennedy Sanderson Jr., of Jones County, passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Born and raised in Jones County, Ikie devoted his life to farming. He raised chickens and tended crops with pride, finding purpose in the hard work and steady rhythm of farm life. Farming was more than a way to provide for his family — it was a life he embraced fully and faithfully.

In his younger days, Ikie enjoyed playing golf with his friends at Falling Creek, where many lifelong memories were made. He also loved a good game of poker, where his sharp mind and easy laugh made him a favorite at the table. His loyal dogs were never far from his side, sharing in both the work and the quiet moments of his days.

He was married to his beloved wife, Denise, for 42 years. High school sweethearts, they built a life together centered on love and family. They raised two children, Drew and Carly. His greatest joy came from being “Granddaddy” to his three granddaughters — Sloane, Brooklyn, and Kinsley — who were the light of his later years.

Ikie was preceded in death by his father, Hobert Sanderson Sr. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Sanderson, wife, Denise Sanderson, son, Drew and wife Kendall, daughter, Carly McClure and husband Blake, grandchildren; Sloane, Brooklyn, and Kinsley, siblings; Donna and husband, Sonny Humphreys; Timothy and wife, Frankie; and Michael and wife, Misty, and several nephews.

In addition to his family, Ikie leaves behind his faithful dogs, Curry and Jack, who were constant companions.

Those who knew Ikie will remember his steady presence, his devotion to family, and the pride he took in the life he built. His legacy of love, resilience, and quiet strength will live on in the many lives he touched.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Westview Cemetery in Kinston, with Pastor Chris Truett officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.
