Howard Alexander Jones

Howard Alexander Jones, 86, of Kinston, peacefully passed away on June 21, 2022 at home.  He was born September 3, 1935 to Lonnie and Gracie Jones.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jacobyna “Jackie” Jones, sisters Erdine Brandon, Frauline Vaughn, Zelma Phillips, Rachel Yancey, Ruth Sizemore, brothers Claude Jones, Edward Earl Jones, Lonnie Jones, James Jones, and Reid Jones. 

He graduated from Oak Hill High School and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He retired after many years of service as Whiteville’s City Manager.  After retiring he served on the Whiteville City Council, worked part time as Chadbourn’s City Manger, played golf and spent many hours visiting and socializing with friends.
Howard was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He is survived by one daughter Jacobyna “Jackie” Conway and husband Mark, granddaughter Mallory Tucker and husband Burch, grandson Bec Conway and wife Eliza, two great grandchildren Tilly and Ollie Tucker, two sisters Rebecca Heath and Beth Johnson.

A private memorial service will be held on June 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Gardens in Henderson, NC. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to First Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC.
