James Harold Jones

James Harold Jones 89, of Kinston, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the NC State Veterans Home in Kinston. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Frank and Eva Bliss Jones; first wife and mother of his son Desmond, Shirley Mae Williams Jones, second wife and mother to his sons, Norma Brinson Jones; grandson, Cody Jones and twelve siblings.

Harold always had a smile and greeted everyone as if he had always known them.  Prior to becoming Manager of Lenoir County Farm Bureau, where he served for 36 years, Harold had a master’s degree in education and taught industrial arts at Havelock High School.  He was a member and Elder at Wheat Swamp Christian Church.   He was very active in community organizations including membership in Richard Caswell Masonic Lodge, member of Lenoir County Shrine Club, member of North Lenoir Fire Department and North Lenoir Water Board.  Prior to her death, he and his wife, Norma, worked with Volunteer Services at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

Harold is survived by his three sons, Harold Desmond Jones and wife, Teala; James Jeffrey Jones, Sr. and wife, Becky and Barry Norman Jones; grandchildren, Fel Jones and wife, Jennifer, Susie Jones Summerlin and husband, Matt, James Jeffrey Jones, Jr. and wife, Christina, Jeffrey Auston Jones and wife, Elizabeth, Madison Jones Frieson and husband Donavan, Summer Jones and husband, Lane Sullagar and Holly Jones; great-grandchildren, Carson, Judah, Journey, Dylan, Jackson, Patrick, Alex, Jase and Ezra.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Wheat Swamp Christian Church with Pastor Hank Jarman and Reverend Suzie Summerlin presiding.  Visitation will follow the service.  Graveside service will be Monday, August 14, 2023, at Pinelawn Memorial Park at 11:00 am.
