James Thomas McLawhorn, 55, of Deep Run went to be with his heavenly Father on January 24, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Lenoir County on October 23, 1970, to Barbara Ann Moody and the late Norman McLawhorn.
He was known for his love of wrestling, soap operas, and video games. If James was not playing his video games, he would share with his family members about the latest WrestleMania event or what was happening on the Young and the Restless. Another passion of James was his love for dogs. Being outdoors and playing with his niece’s dogs was one of his favorite pastimes. James always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
James is survived by his mother, Barbara Ann Moody; sister, Christy Moody Smith; brothers, Samuel (Beverly) and Daniel (Tabatha) McLawhorn; nieces, McKinley, Sydney, and Anna George McLawhorn; nephews, Gabriel Smith, Ethan and Heath McLawhorn; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. James was preceded in death by his Papa, Thomas Troy Stallings, Jr. and his brother-in-law, Clint Smith.
The family is very appreciative of McKinley for being a special care giver for her uncle.
James’ life will be celebrated on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 5-7 pm at Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church.
