James Durwood Robinson

James Durwood Robinson, “J.D.”, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on April 19, 1939, to Durwood Robinson and Annie Lee Freeman.  On May 1, 1954, J.D. was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  On December 21, 1958, J.D. married Barbara Earle Ives.  On July 10, 1998, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Washington, D.C. Temple.  J.D served in the Church in various positions throughout his life, maybe most memorably as the Scoutmaster of Howard’s Chapel Scout troop in the 1960’s.  The young men he served still recall the fun times they had with him at the helm.  He was also in the Ward Choir and loved to sing with friends and family when the occasion arose.

J.D. grew up in a farming family, where he worked as a young man.  He went on to join the NC State Highway Patrol in 1964, where he ultimately retired as a Master Trooper in 1994.  J.D. enjoyed a camaraderie with his fellow troopers that would last until his final days on this earth.

 J.D.’s grilling was legendary, and he often enjoyed cooking for his parents, sisters, and their families when everyone gathered at his parent’s family home.  He also loved to work with older cars, restoring a 1966 Chevrolet Impala, which was his pride and joy.

 J.D. is survived by his children, Lorie Anne Cantu (Kim) and James Durwood Robinson, Jr., “Jay” (Wendy;) and his granddaughter, Brittany Robinson.  He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and many special friends.  J.D. has been joyfully reunited with his eternal companion, Barbara, his grandson, Daniel, his parents, sisters and other cherished family members.

J.D.’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the special people who have visited him and performed other kind acts of service during his prolonged illness.  They would also like to thank the many friends who have provided meals and support during this tender time of his passing.

Graveside Services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the home of James Durwood Robinson with Brother Keith Tyndall and Bishop Josh Tuller officiating.
