James Monroe West, 87, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Trenton, NC, he was the son of the late James Daniel and Ethel Koonce West. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ada Conway West; second wife, Betty Lou Grant West; his last wife, Annie Mae Moore West; and siblings, Helen West Little, Nelson Lee West, Jake Koonce West, Linda West Brown, Wanda Faye West, and Joyce Ann West.
James was a sewing machine mechanic for over 40 years. He loved working on them and continued to work on those belonging to family and friends until he couldn’t anymore. His true passion in life was spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through singing, playing the guitar, and testifying. Wherever he went, he planted many seeds for Jesus Christ in people’s hearts. He never met a stranger and always took an opportunity to talk to someone about his Lord.
James is survived by his daughters, Rose West Harrison (Wade), Elizabeth West Davis (Robert), and Phyllis West; son, Martin Varnell (Page); grandchildren, Misty Delk Hall (Tommy), Waylon Harrison (Amanda), Nicole Harrison (Frank), Taylor Varnell (Kayla), Cole Davis, Emily Varnell Martin (Nick), Trevor Davis, Jackson Varnell, Olivia Varnell, and Jared Jones; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ricky West (Marie); special friend, Jackie Hill; along with many other close family members and friends.
A special thank you to the nurses and associates from Pruitt Hospice Care for the kindness, love, and tenderness they showed James and his family.
Visitation will be 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Trenton Pentecostal Holiness Church with a Celebration of Life service following at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
