Jean Moore Mallard

Jean Moore Mallard of Kinston, 85, passed away on October 10, 2023.  Born November 27, 1937, Jean was one of two children born to Nancy Louise and Edward Fred Moore.

Jean was blessed to have a devoted husband, Graham Warden Mallard, and a loving family.  The pair were high school sweethearts and were married for more than 58 years.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. 

She is survived by her sister, Faye Stroud of Pink Hill; her daughter, Jeanne Kennedy (Roger) of La Grange; granddaughter, Amanda Kennedy Hudson (Jay) of Ayden; grandson, Matthew Kennedy (Cindy) of Greenville SC, and Crandall Anderson (Wendy) of Hillsbourgh; great-grandchildren, Austin Kennedy, Chole Kennedy, Wyatt Hudson, Jordan Anderson, and Bailey Anderson and two special family members, Allie Bluhm-Whitley and Erich Hans Peter Bluhm are left to carry on her memory. 

Jean possessed numerous talents that include arranging flowers, knitting, crocheting, decorating, and styling hair.  Her family benefited from her big heart in several ways.  She was quick to offer advice and support when her family needed her. 

She will be remembered for her great love of children and animals.  Jean attended Westminster United Methodist Church with her husband for many years, and they spent countless hours volunteering before family health issues made it difficult to attend church activities.  Her career included owning a beauty salon and working for years in the Lenoir County Public School system.  The family wishes to express its gratitude to Dr. Wayne Cox and Debbie Mills at Physicians East for many years of kind and dedicated healthcare. She was also blessed with devoted healthcare providers (Kathy Heath, Rikki Sanderson, and Eva Jimenez) over the years that made such meaningful contributions to Jean’s life. 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 13,2023, at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may the made to the Lenoir Community College Foundation-Graham W. and Jean M. Mallard Scholarship Fund at PO Box 188, Kinston, NC 28502, or to the Lenoir County SPCA Building Fund at 2455 Rouse Road Extension, Kinston, NC, 28504.
