JoAnn (Dawson) Carter

JoAnn Dawson Carter, 72, of Kinston passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at UNC Lenoir Health Care. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Dawson Stanley, and other special family members.

JoAnn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was a great friend to all. She loved lending a listening ear and was a “mother hen” to all of her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Otis Tillman Carter, of the home; daughter, Missy Carter and husband, Gene; sons, Tillman Carter and wife, Angie, Gary Carter and wife, Patricia, Chris Carter, and Jeff Lein and wife, Deanna; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Jones and husband, Jimmy, Susie Tilghman and husband, David, Dianne Price and husband, Billy, and Shelby Tilghman; brother, Chris Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.

Howard-Carter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. There will be no services at this time.
