John "Jack" Collins, Jr. Obituary

John “Jack” Earle Collins, Jr., 95, of Kinston, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, August 31, after a brief illness. Raised in Washington, DC, Jack was the first of two children born to Anna and John Collins, Sr. In 1947, friends introduced Jack to a southern belle named Margaret Hill, who was originally from Kinston, NC and working for the FBI in DC.  They were married the following year.  They raised their four children in Fairfax, Virginia in the house that Jack built with his own hands. They retired to Kinston in 1988.

Jack worked at Barker’s Brake Service for 30 years as a mechanic and sales representative and at Kar Products for 15 years as a trainer and regional sales manager.  He was a long-time member of the Centreville Moose Lodge in Virginia and of Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge #304 in Deep Run, North Carolina.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Margie, their sons, Randal Collins and Russel Collins; grandson, Marshall Collins; daughter, Janice Collins; and his sister, Jeanne Dorothy Collins.  He is survived by his devoted daughter, Pam Collins Peters of Reston, Virginia, adoring grandchildren Emily DeWitt-Cisneros, Alessia Collins Hankins, Zachary Collins Peters, Kyle Winslow Peters, and Cody Dillon Collins, as well as seven loving great-grandchildren.

Visitation and services will be held Saturday, September 6 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home in Kinston, North Carolina with Pastor Allen Ham officiating.

11:00 am – 12:00 pm:  Visitation

12:00 - 1:00 pm: Celebration of Life

Burial to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
