Kimberly “Kim” Kennedy, 62, passed away on October 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lavonda “Cokie” Kennedy and Bernon “Buddy” Kennedy.
She attended Lenoir County schools, graduating from South Lenoir High School in 1980. Kim had a spirit of service that showed through everything from her chosen career to her treasured hobbies. She dedicated many years of service to the Lenoir County Department of Social Services. Kim continued her acts of service through her active involvement in the Jackson Heights Community Watch Program.
Kim loved the outdoors and making things beautiful. She loved flowers, a trait inherited from her mother and loved to share those flowers with those she loved. She enjoyed gardening with her special friend, Josh, as well as picking gallons of pecans on her grandmother’s farm. When she wasn’t working with her hands, she could be found on a beach at sunrise. If you were not able to find Kim outside you could definitely find her in her beloved “she-shed” where she spent many hours tinkering on numerous projects or working out at the gym with her friend, Bob. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Kim is survived by her partner for many years, Cherrie Heath, brothers, Bernie Kennedy (Cissy), Kevin Kennedy (Renee) and Jason Kennedy (Jessica); aunts, Lana Jones, Elsie Johnson, Vera Smith, Pat Whaley; her best friend, Shari Herring and dear neighbor, Pop.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 6:00 pm with visitation to follow at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
