Lillie Simmons Obituary

Lillie Jean Meyer Simmons, 89, peacefully passed away at her home on June 29, 2026. She was born on October 30, 1936, to the late Bert and Temmisa Mooring of Greene County.

Lillie dedicated much of her life to serving others. She worked as a hairstylist at Rachel’s Beauty Shop, where she enjoyed helping others look and feel their best. She later served as a nursing assistant at Lenoir Memorial Hospital, providing compassionate care to countless patients with kindness and a gentle spirit.

Above all else, Lillie was a devoted mother of two and a cherished grandmother to many. Her greatest joy was her family, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She had a giving heart and found happiness in creating handmade crocheted gifts for her loved ones. Whether for birthdays, holidays, or simply to show she cared, every stitch reflected the love she poured into her family.

A faithful Christian, Lillie was a longtime member of Armenia Chrisitan Church, where her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life.

She also shared a special bond with her beloved fur baby, Dusty, who was not only her constant companion but her best friend.

Lillie is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, William Carl Meyer; second husband, Ronnie Simmons; son, Jackie Wayne Rhue; sisters, Margaret Hardison and Rachel Jones and brother Bennie Mooring.

She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Jean Rhue-Antwine, four grandchildren, William Shane Lee, Richard Ray Lee, William Curtis Rhue, Jackie Elaine Rhue Batchelor, and many great grandchildren.

Lillie will be remembered for her loving heart, selfless nature, unwavering faith, and the warmth she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and strive to honor the example of love and compassion she set.
