Lois Hughes Civils, 87, of La Grange, N.C. passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Magnolia Cottage in Dover.
After many years of hard work, Lois retired from Glen Raven Mills.
As a woman of faith, Lois loved Jesus with all her heart and attended church faithfully. She was known as the “church lady”. Lois also had other names that she would answer to, such as “mama C” and “mammy”.
She had several different hobbies, but her favorites were needlepoint, word search, and ceramics.
Cooking and baking were also things that Lois took delight in. She took pleasure in being able to cook for her family and would often cook for church functions.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Civils; daughter, Debra Barfield; son-in-law, Earl Barfield; grandsons, Robert Smith and Earl Barfield, II; and brothers, Roger Hughes and Lawrence Hughes.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Janet Smith and husband, Mike of Deep Run; Pam Barfield and husband, Gerald of Greenville; son, Jeff Civils and wife, Chris, of Kinston; grandchildren, Aron Daniels of Greenville and his children, Elijah and Malcolm; Chris Smith and wife, Ashley of Deep Run and their children, Kaylee, Connor, and Lacey; Jordan Smith of Deep Run; Eric Barfield and wife, Patricia of Ayden and their children, Kalee and Lincoln; Haley Mooring and husband, Austin of Kinston and their children, Mason and Haven; Heather Solomon of Kinston; and Dawn Wallace of Goldsboro and her children, Katie, Brittni, Alisha, Jeffree, and Ayden; Hunter and Ashland Barfield , children of predeceased grandson, Earl Barfield II, Julie Buck and husband, Mark of Deland, FL and their daughter, Breeona Farris; Jennifer Zachary of Waycross, Georgia; and five great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor John Taylor and Gerald Barfield officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Westview Cemetery.
