Loretta (Guinn) Paradis

Loretta Guinn Paradis, 94, of Kinston passed peacefully, surrounded by her family on August 19 at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport. Born in Craven County, Loretta was the daughter of the late Ernest Guinn and Patty Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Joseph E. Paradis Jr, sister Margaret Templeton and brother Ernest Guinn, Jr.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Joy D. Paradis and son Joseph E. Paradis III, nephews Mike Carter, Bobby (Martha), Jimmy (Phyllis) and Charles (Teresa) Guinn and niece Delma K. Posey.

When she first came to Kinston she worked as a telephone operator for Carolina Telephone and later in the Fine China Department at Belk. She loved meeting people and sharing stories and always wore a smile on her face.

When you visited Loretta, you never left empty-handed. Whether it was a jar of fig preserves, half a cake, or a container of her homemade soup, she always made sure you left with something made from the heart.

Her home was a reflection of her pride and care—always spotless—and her yard and driveway were widely regarded as the cleanest in Kinston.

Mama loved to dress to the nines, always wearing makeup, heels and dangly earrings! She was known to mow the grass in the attire minus the heels!
