Maezell Smith Cauley

Maezell Smith Cauley, 73, of New Bern, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, George James Smith, Sr. and Mary Alice Smith; stepmother, Lucy Smith; sisters, Mable Hill, Mary Helen Holland, and Elsie Rouse; and brothers, Willie Smith, Dee Smith, Ed Smith, and Ray Smith.

Maezell is survived by her husband, David R. Cauley, of the home; sisters, Thelma Smith Barrow of Kinston; brothers, Johnny Sheperd Smith of Kinston and George James Smith, Jr. of Kinston; sisters-in-law, Sue Ange of Kinston and Carol Simmons of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Mercer Cauley of Charlotte, along with many close nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

The family would like to thank all of the special people who have been there for Maezell throughout her life. Thank you to her nephew, George Smith III, and her two ‘adopted daughters’, Ali-Dee Griffiths and Tiffany Atilien for their wonderful care.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Pastors Danny French and Carol Simmons officiating.
